The 2009/2010 Indoor Track season has been great from the beginning and we have continued with the same hard work and dedication that our Firebird athletes are known for. With the success from last year’s outdoor and indoor seasons, we garnished more interest and had close to 50 athletes who participated this Indoor Track Season. Also, this season we added more coaches and staff members to assist in developing the athletes and preparing them for the competitive season.
Although we had some meets cancelled due to the snowy weather, we participated in about 6 all-comers meets including a Breast Cancer Awareness fundraising meet. Our athletes have faired well as a team all season and at most meets, we had many athletes place in the top 3 in their events. We had some athletes who were new to running track, make great improvements with their technique and form. Overall our athletes had tremendous fun just being part of the Firebirds family!
The Firebirds participated in the 1st State Indoor Track Classic in Delaware. It was a very grueling and competitive meet where about 30 east coast teams were competing. We entered 23 athletes and our girls came away with the FIRST PLACE TROPHY for overall team points edging out the Morris Estates team from Philadelphia by 1 point!!! (Firebirds girl’s 93 – Morris Estates girls 92)
We finished up our season with two invitational meets that were extremely competitive the Mid-Atlantic Track Classic which was a relay meet and the PVA 14 and Under Age Group Invitational Championships.
We entered 4 relay teams at the Mid-Atlantic Track Classic and we had our Youth Boys and our Midget Girls 4x200m relay teams earn 1st place medals! Our Youth Girls and Bantam Girls earned 3rd place medals!
The PVA 14 and Under Age Group Invitational, is considered the largest youth indoor track meet on the east coast. There were a total of 44 teams and over a thousand athletes competing overall and it was the best competition we faced all year. We were fortunate to enter 25 athletes and 19 of the 25 athletes came away with medals! As a team we were able to come away with a grand total of 33 medals including 3 gold medals for first place. Bethany White 1st place 55m Youth Girls, Midget Girls 1st place 4x200m relay, Youth boys 1st place 4x200m relay. Many of our athletes placed in the top six in their events which earned medals or were in the finals of there events.
